પ્રકરણ ૬: અમાસ | રાત્રિની શોધમાં જૂન, ૧૯૯૨ મનોહરે તેની સિગારેટનાં બે કસ લગાવ્યા અને દૂર નલિયાની ભાગોળે અતિ આછા પ્રકાશે ઝબૂકતા રાધા-ક્રષ્ણના મંદિર તરફ નજર માંડી. ઝાકળ જેવી ભીની અને કાજળ જેવી અંધારી રાત્રે મનોહરને આજે આ મંદિર એક રૌદ્ર આગિયા સમાન લાગી રહ્યું હતું, અને આજે જ નહીં, પણ લગભગ છેલ્લા બે વર્ષથી દર અમાસે મધરાત બાદ તે જ અગિયાને તાક્યા કરવો, એક નિશાચરી ઘૂવડ માફક જાગ્રત ડોળે પેહરેદારી કરવી, અને પાછું રાત્રિના અલૌકિક ચેહરા સામે અડગ રેહાવાનો ઢોંગ કરવો, આ બધું તો હવે મનોહરનું નસીબ જ બની ગયું હતું. અલબત, રૌદ્ર આગિયા સમાન તે મંદિર ખરેખર તો ઘણું દૂર હતું, છતાં મનોહરને દર અમાસે તે જરૂર દેખાતું. Image Credit: AI-Generated image by Copilot by Designer Software of Microsoft નલિયાની ઉત્તરે આશરે બે થી ત્રણ સીમાડાઓ વટાવતા એક ઊંચી ટેકરી પર આવેલ એક વટોવૃક્ષના અત્યંત જાડા એવા થડ પર પોતાના શરીરને ટેકવીને તે છેલ્લા એક કલાકથી બસ ઉભો જ હતો. જોકે કારણભૂત રીતે તો તે ચોકીદારી કરી રહ્યો હતો, પણ આજૂબાજૂ જોવાની હિંમત તો આજેય નોહતી તેનામાં! કેમકે દૂર સુધી જો કાઈ હતું તો તે હતો વિચિત્ર શાંતિમાં લિપ્ત થયેલ બેચે...
